Shannon Kane

Shannon Kane began her career working in international development focusing on women and education before joining the inaugural cohort of DC Teaching Fellows. Since then, Shannon has spent time as a classroom teacher in traditional public and public charter schools in Washington DC, an instructional coach, curriculum writer, professional developer/consultant, teacher researcher, and adjunct professor. She earned her doctorate in reading, writing, and literacy from the University of Pennsylvania and also holds master’s degrees in international development and elementary education/TESOL. While earning her doctorate, Shannon worked as a new teacher mentor and supervisor for the school district of Philadelphia. Her research interests include critical literacy, literacy pedagogy, teacher resilience, and teacher leadership. Prior to joining Reading Partners, Shannon worked as the director of teacher certification at the Center for Inspired Teaching.
