Our commitment to web accessibility

Reading Partners is committed to providing a fully accessible website experience for all users of all abilities, including those who rely on assistive technologies like screen readers, screen enlargement software, and alternative keyboard input devices to navigate the web.

Ongoing efforts to ensure accessibility

We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 as our guiding principle for determining accessibility. These are internationally agreed-upon standards that cover a wide range of recommendations and best practices for making content useable. As we add new pages and functionality to our website, all designs, code, and content entry practices are checked against these standards.

Website accessibility is an ongoing process. We continually test content and features for WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance and remediate any issues to ensure we meet or exceed the standards.

We re-launched our website in September 2024. We designed and built our new site to conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA (see below for details on our progress), and continually monitor our site status.

We took care to ensure the site design and development conformed with the 13 guidelines and four principles of accessibility, including in the areas of:

  • Structural Markup
  • W3C WAI-Aria Landmarks
  • Access Keys
  • Images
  • Links
  • Forms
  • Scripts
  • Visual Design

Current Conformance Status and Audit Data

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Our current website is conformant to WCAG 2.2 level AA, with some known gaps, which we are working to address, including:

Insufficient Color Contrast
White font on orange buttons does not meet accessibility requirements

Archival Blog and News Posts
There may be various accessibility issues with archival blog and news posts migrated from the previous iteration of our website. All blog posts from January 2024 onward are Level AA compliant.

Alternative Text
Alt text is included on all images added since June of 2023, but may be inconsistent prior to that time

This is part of our broader effort to make everyone’s experience at Reading Partners a welcoming and enjoyable one. Please note that while we make every effort to provide information accessible for all users, we cannot guarantee the accessibility of third party websites to which we may link.
