Celebrate #GivingTuesday 2013

November 26, 2013

by Celebrate #GivingTuesday 2013

Last year, on November 27, 2012, the Tuesday after thanksgiving marked the first annual #GivingTuesday: A very special giving event that is catching on across the nation and worldwide.

Following on the coattails of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday marks the start of the season of giving. In true holiday spirit, #GivingTuesday is about taking a break from holiday shopping to spend one day focused on philanthropy and service.

Charity Navigator describes #GivingTuesday as a time to encourage people everywhere including retailers, charities, online organizations, community centers, individuals and families to come together with one common purpose — to help others and incentivize ways to give more, give smarter, and celebrate the great American spirit of generosity through charitable contributions and volunteerism.

The Huffington Post notes that this is a new era of giving, accessible to everyone. Now, Anyone can be a philanthropist. You don’t have to be a billionaire or a world leader to make a difference, you just have to care about a cause and be willing to get involved.

Reading Partners invites you to join the #GivingTuesday movement. No matter how large or small, your gift helps to make our world turn.

  • It helps to furnish reading centers with fresh, new learning supplies.
  • It helps to recruit and train new volunteers who are the heart and engine of our work.
  • It helps to compensate the dedicated, talented staff you see everyday and the many more working behind the scenes.
  • And most importantly, it helps to keep our program 100% free to our students and their families.

We believe that Anne Frank said it best, “No one ever became poor by giving.”

In 2012, more than 50 million participants turned out for #GivingTuesday. Let’s keep this wonderful momentum going this year! This season, please consider showing your #GivingTuesday support on Tuesday, December 3, 2013.
