My impactful moment with my reading partner

Back to National Volunteer Week blog

By: Joe Williams, volunteer reading partner in Dallas, TX

Last year at Rhoads Elementary I had a student named Kenny*. As a native Spanish speaker he was enrolled in the Spanish/English curriculum. He is a smart kid, very engaged and a very good reader. He also vibrates with energy. As I turned to leave after returning him to his classroom one day, he called out to me: “Mr. Joe! I will not forget you,” He assuredly will forget me, but I’ll never forget him.
