“It Takes a Village”…and a great website: The Power of Giving in the Modern Age
May 27, 2014
On May 6, nonprofits across the country were blown away by the outpour of support shown on “Giving Day.” Over 300,000 people turned out to give a total of $53,354,526.74 for thousands of nonprofit organizations. At Reading Partners, we were blown away by the generosity of our supporters who gave enough to:
Support 10 students through one year of one-on-one tutoring.
Supply 35 reading centers with writing materials.
Bring 500 children’s books to fill the shelves of school reading centers.
In Charleston, SC alone, supporters gave over $40K to support Reading Partners program in local elementary schools!
This special event showed the power of giving in the modern age. In a single day, on one online platform individuals chose to help change the lives of students and so much more. With the click of a button, from any location, anyone could give. Imagine if, on this day, everyone in the United States took a few minutes to pledge just one dollar. What a huge impact that would make.
But, as we are reminded day-after-day at Reading Partners, giving a monetary contribution isn’t the only way to give. Giving time and one-on-one attention to students is the driving force of Reading Partners’ program. Learn how Liz, in Charleston, is giving back in this modern age…read more.
