Yelp Foundation awards $44,000 in prize grants to Reading Partners
December 22, 2016
Voting is closed and results of the annual Yelp Foundation Gives Local (YFGL) contest are being celebrated in local communities across the country. This year, the Yelp Foundation contributed $640,000 to 192 local nonprofits, with grants of $5,000, $3,000, and $2,000 awarded to each of the three finalists in 64 cities nationwide.
The Yelp platform connects people with local businesses, offering crowd-sourced ratings and reviews to help individuals choose the services they want. So it’s no surprise that their charitable foundation offers a unique experience for local giving.
With a mission to “support charitable organizations and activities addressing the needs of local communities,” the YFGL competition put the grant-giving power into the hands of local community members who voted for the nonprofits they care about.
Reading Partners supporters used their crowd-sourcing powers for good, securing $44,000 in Yelp grants for ten local Reading Partners regions. Each of these local programs are committed to providing quality, community driven reading support to hundreds of local students. The funds raised in the YFGL grant contest will go a long way toward ensuring students in local communities have the opportunity to reach their full potential in reading and in their lives.

Baltimore awarded $3,000
