Dallas Elementary “Reading Center” Dedicated On Monday

dfw-generic-teacher-school-education-17The top education leaders from Dallas and Texas will dedicate a “reading center” at an elementary school in south Dallas Monday morning.

Texas Commissioner of Education Michael Williams and Dallas ISD Superintendent Mike Miles will help inaugurate the center at Roger Q. Mills Elementary Monday at 11:00 a.m.  Both will read to students and observe tutoring by the non-profit literacy group Reading Partners.

The organization works with teachers and principals to help improve the reading skills of children who read below their grade level.

The “reading center” will include a library and teaching tools.

The national non-profit literacy agency claims to have increased the monthly rates of literacy learning in 90 percent of Dallas students whom they worked with in the 2012-13 school year.
