Radio coverage on Child Trends study

January 23, 2019

Reading Partners featured on NewsRadio KFBK 93.1 FM regarding the Child Trends press release confirming social and emotional learning outcomes for students in our program.

Originally on NewsRadio KFBK:

A new study shows that early literacy work, like that being done by Reading Partners of Sacramento, helps students not only improve their reading, but also social and emotional learning skills.

The two-year study was conducted in Sacramento and across California. Reading Partners Sacramento is a community fueled, one-on-one tutoring program.

A lot of times, when children are not successful in school, it’s not really due to the fact that they don’t have the intellectual ability— it’s really due to the fact that they have behavior challenges that really get in the way of learning. So they end up six months, two years behind grade level.

Rachel Minnick, with Reading Partners Sacramento.

So we found that our programs, because it is a one-to-one, mentoring type of relationship between a student and their tutor— that trusting loving contact every week with a caring adult, really changes how that child feels about themselves.

Reading Partners Sacramento is always looking for volunteers.
