Reading Partners Twin Cities becomes Reading Partners Minnesota

September 18, 2024

After nine years of serving students as Reading Partners Twin Cities, Reading Partners is growing to meet the urgent needs of our community and becoming Reading Partners Minnesota.

“As we enter our 10th year of programming, Reading Partners is proud to become a literacy solution for more students,” said executive director Brooke Rivers. While Reading Partners will continue to serve and focus on supporting students in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Reading Partners Minnesota is expanding our footprint through both our traditional and Powered by Reading Partners programming. “Our growth is taking us to new geographies: first, ring suburbs such as Columbia Heights and Roseville, and secondly into Greater Minnesota in partnership with Faribault Public Schools.”

Reading Partners serves as a structured, evidence-based option in our community’s toolbox to empower young students to read, think critically, and develop a lifelong love of learning and literacy. Reading Partners empowers students to develop mastery of key reading skills through data-informed, curriculum-driven, one-on-one tutoring led by trained volunteer tutors. Student-tutor pairs work together for 45 minutes twice per week, following a curriculum based in the science of reading.

“By becoming Reading Partners Minnesota, we are focused on innovating and expanding our high-impact literacy support services to serve more Minnesota students and families who may not have access to resources like private tutoring,” shared Rivers. Reading Partners Minnesota will reach and impact more students through the growth of our in-school traditional model, innovation in our partnership work collaborating with afterschool programs, and expansion into a statewide solution for our students, all while keeping our focus on student results.

Rivers started as the organization’s founding program director before stepping into the executive director role. “When we launched our programming 2015, we started with a small team and built a grassroots group of volunteers who cared deeply about supporting students on their reading journeys. We wouldn’t be here today without the support of thousands of volunteers delivering over 100,000 tutoring sessions. In order to close the literacy opportunity gap, we’re going to need Minnesota to show up and help us build a brighter future for our community.”
