Share the love with Reading Partners Los Angeles
February 4, 2016
With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, Reading Partners Los Angeles hopes tutors will spread the love by referring their friends to Reading Partners and help more kids in Los Angeles, Lawndale, Santa Monica, and Pasadena.
Now through February 14, Reading Partners Los Angeles is running its second annual Share the Love campaign, where tutors recruit their friends and family to become volunteer reading partners for local students. For every three new tutors recruited, Reading Partners will give each of its students a book for their summer reading library.
Volunteers who are recruited by their friends or family will provide 125 students currently waiting for reading partners with the one-on-one support they need. The accrued books will play a crucial role in ensuring students continue reading through the summer and keeping them on track for the next year.
“Share the Love is an amazing opportunity for tutors to share their experience of impacting a child’s life forever,” said Laura Zachar, executive director of Reading Partners Los Angeles. “This year, not only will this campaign help us offer Reading Partners to more students, but will ensure our students continue reading even after programming has ended.”
By sharing the love, not only will more volunteers have the opportunity to make a difference and experience the joy of working one-on-one with a student, but each new volunteer will allow another student to be enrolled in the Reading Partners program. Current Reading Partners volunteers are encouraged to share their their experience working one-on-one with a student, and encourage their friends, family, colleagues, and community to join the program and make a meaningful impact on a child who isn’t reading on grade level.
“Share the Love not only brings new potential tutors, but it raises awareness to the struggles faced daily by students who cannot reach their grade level without the supplemental education we provide,” said Vivian Youssef, LA’s senior regional site coordinator. “I think many people genuinely want to give back and do their part, but sometimes they just don’t know where to start. The campaign is a great way to lead them into it.”
Join us and share the love, now through February 14. Every new volunteer counts for another student enrolled in Reading Partners. For more information, please contact Chloe Oliveras, community engagement associate, at chloe.oliveras@readingpartners.org or (213) 399-8599.
