Student Behavior and Motivation
June 13, 2019 4-5 pm Northbridge Baptist Church, 1160 Sam Rittenburg, West Ashley
Tutoring can be challenging, especially when your student is not engaged in the lesson. This training focuses on building skills that will help you find ways to get more out of your sessions when student behavior is not ideal. We’ll teach specific strategies and tactics to keep your sessions productive.
Relationship Building and Supporting Comprehension
July 18, 2019 9:30-10:30 am Charleston County Public Library, 68 Calhoun St., Charleston
Building a strong relationship with your student is critical for the sessions to be productive. In this session, tutors will learn foundational tools for building a positive relationship with their students. In addition, tutors will identify and practice good comprehension support strategies to employ during the tutor read aloud.

As you know, Reading Partners structured lesson plans are proven to get results. And the more familiar you are with the lessons, the better your sessions will be. This training focuses on the foundation of our program, the curriculum, and will provide tips and pointers for how to more effectively deliver your sessions.

Working one-on-one with a child means it’s up to you to find the most effective ways to engage your student. But we’re here to help! Asking good questions is a key skill to improve reading and support comprehension. We will train you on observing cues, and asking the right questions to get the most out of your student.
