SUPERINTENDENT KENT P. SCRIBNER TO SERVE ON LITERACY PANEL AT BOOKS AND BREAKFAST EVENT IN DALLAS
April 27, 2018
A special event focused on ensuring North Texas third graders can read on grade level will highlight the efforts of Fort Worth ISD. Superintendent Kent P. Scribner will serve on a panel at the inaugural “Books & Breakfast” in Dallas, hosted by Reading Partners North Texas. The event will be from 8 to 9 a.m., Friday, May 4 at the George W. Bush Institute.
The breakfast will include opening remarks by Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings. The event will feature a panel with Dr. Scribner, Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price and Dallas ISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa. Krys Boyd, host of the KERA radio show, “Think,” will serve as moderator. Panel discussion topics will include early childhood intervention, community support and district literacy initiatives.
Fort Worth ISD’s key literacy initiative is 100 X 25 FWTX, which sets a goal of 100 percent of third graders reading on grade level or above by the year 2025. Superintendent Kent P. Scribner is partnering with Mayor Price and BNSF Executive Chairman Matt Rose to lead the community-wide Read Fort Worth initiative. This collective impact strategy engages parents, grandparents, and caregivers as well as volunteers from the city’s business sector, higher education, non-profit organizations, and the faith-based community.
The Read Fort Worth literacy partnership will connect and support existing initiatives, programs and providers through data, communications, and facilitation to dramatically improve early childhood results.
In addition to the District’s representation on the panel, “Books & Breakfast” will also feature remarks by Principal Valencia Rhines of the Leadership Academy at Como Elementary.
Reading Partners North Texas currently serves 187 students in Fort Worth ISD schools. They support Leadership Academy at Como, Leadership Academy at John T. White, Leadership Academy at Maude Logan, Leadership Academy at Mitchell Boulevard and Edward J. Briscoe Elementary School.
