Volunteers needed for Reading Partners summer school

April 14, 2016

For children, summer vacation is a time full of carefree fun. However, this time often results in a pause of a child’s education. Regular practice of newly learned skills are often neglected, and students can return to school in August as much as three months behind where they left off in June.

In an effort to beat the “summer slide”, Reading Partners is thrilled to be partnering with Springboard Collaborative to continue to serve Oakland students this summer!

Springboard Collaborative runs intensive, five-week summer literacy programs on school campuses for elementary school students and their families, which will allow Reading Partners to continue to run programming during June and July. This unique partnership will allow us to provide students with a well-rounded summer experience and jump-start learning for the new school year.

Programming will run Monday through Friday at the following school sites, with sessions running between 8:30 am-12:30 pm*:

  • Allendale Elementary: June 20 – July 22
  • Cox Academy: June 27 – July 29

* Final session times still to be confirmed

As always, materials will be provided, and there will be a full-time site coordinator to answer any questions and offer support. We ask that volunteers commit to at least one hour per week for the entire summer school term.
