David Lujan

David Lujan leads our work to ensure that a greater proportion of students across the country are achieving reading proficiency by fourth grade by advocating for stronger policies and additional funding to support evidence-based literacy interventions at the local, state, and federal levels. David represented central Phoenix in the Arizona State Senate and was elected to three terms in the Arizona House of Representatives and served for two years as the House Minority Leader. He also served for eight years on the Phoenix Union High School District Governing Board. David is an attorney who represented the State of Arizona on a number of education issues as an assistant attorney general. David was also the chief administrator for ASU Preparatory Academy, a K-12 public charter school located in downtown Phoenix and operated by Arizona State University that has achieved some of the highest academic gains in Arizona. David has two degrees from Arizona State University, a law degree and a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
