Desiree Perez-Barahona
Desiree joined Reading Partners in 2008 as a founding member of the Reading Partners Los Angeles team, and in 2009 moved to the Bay Area to join the Reading Partners management team. Desiree has held several positions throughout the Bay Area including executive director for the SF Bay Area region. Desiree is now the vice president of regional operations. Desiree received her bachelor’s in child development from California State University Los Angeles. Her passion for both community engagement and working with children led her to exciting positions within newly established Los Angeles City departments: Commission for Children, Youth and Their Families and the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment. She then pursued her multiple subject teaching credential and master’s in education, and taught sixth through eighth grade English, history, and reading intervention. Her years spent teaching teenagers in under-resourced communities to read led her to look outside of the traditional classroom setting for early reading intervention opportunities, leading her to join the Reading Partners team.
