karen matterson

Karen Matterson

Karen brings over 30 years of progressive human resources experience spanning multiple roles and industries. Prior to joining Reading Partners, Karen was chief people officer for Global Payments Inc., one of the world’s largest providers of payment technology solutions. She joined the company in 2008 as director of human resources and continued to take on more challenging roles and assignments with increased responsibilities. During her time at Global Payments, Karen implemented the company’s first diversity and inclusion strategic plan and roadmap and was responsible for the integration of over ten major acquisitions helping to lead the Company to Fortune 500 status. In 2018, Karen was recognized by Black Enterprise magazine as one of the “Most Powerful Women in Corporate America”.

Before joining Global Payments, Karen served in senior human resources leadership roles at The Coca-Cola Company, Blockbuster, and the John H. Harland Company. Karen holds a BBA in human resources from Georgia State University. She is a board member for Forelife, Inc., an organization whose mission is to empower vulnerable youth to help them survive, succeed, and realize their full potential.

Karen is a patron of the performing arts and enjoys spending time with her family–her husband, their three children, and granddaughter.
