Michael Spalsbury

Mike was born, raised, and educated near the shores of Lake Michigan where he began a life-long love of experiential education and working with children, beginning with what became a long history with the YMCA. He has spent the better part of his life dedicated to education-centered nonprofit work and comes to Reading Partners Sacramento after spending time as a site coordinator with Reading Partners Silicon Valley. As a program manager, he oversees five school sites and is passionate about childhood education. His philosophy is that in order to increase knowledge, develop skills, and clarify values, we must purposefully engage the students with direct experience and focused reflection, because it will all develop the students’ capacity to contribute to their communities. When he’s not in one of the reading centers, Mike can be found on his bike or between the pages of the pretentiously long book he’s only pretending to read. Contact Mike at michael.spalsbury@readingpartners.org or 415.305.5201.
