Ted MacDonald

Ted MacDonald

Ted MacDonald is a managing director of D. E. Shaw & Co., L.P., chief risk officer for the D. E. Shaw group, and a member of the firm’s risk committee. From 2003, when he joined the D. E. Shaw group, through 2013, Dr. MacDonald served as the firm’s Treasurer and, in that capacity, supervised the financing of the firm’s portfolios, management of cash and liquidity, management of banking and brokerage relationships, and implementation of new businesses. Prior to joining the firm, he worked at Citadel Investment Group, L.L.C., where he was last a director in that firm’s portfolio finance group. From 1997 to 1999, Dr. MacDonald was a consultant at The Boston Consulting Group in Chicago. He serves on the board of directors of the International Swaps and Derivatives Association and LCH.Clearnet LLC. Dr. MacDonald received M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in mathematics from Yale University in 1997. He earned his AB in mathematics in 1991 from Vassar College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and won awards for having the highest academic standing in his class during his junior and senior years, and for excellence in mathematics.
